ComBase needs data!
ComBase continually requires new data to make it highly useful and relevant for you and all of the the food community.
There are three convenient ways to donate data:
1. using our new online Data Wizard
2. adding your data to a simple Excel sheet
3. emailing us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
What are the benefits of donating data?
- You will see how many times your data have been viewed and downloaded, providing a measure of impact
- Food companies and other researchers will not need to spend money to produce the same experiments
What types of data can be donated?
We accept data that describes how microorganisms behave (grow, survive, die) in a food or broth environment.
Can data be kept private?
Your data can be deposited in the Public or Private section of ComBase.
The private section is a particularly useful place to store your data, such as in advance of a journal article being published. This way, you can site your ComBase data locator numbers in your manuscript, and then when your paper is published, we make your data available to the public.
You also have the option of keeping your data private as long as you wish. This is especially useful if the data are proprietary, but you still want to use all of the ComBase features.
How do I submit data?
All data must be formatted in a special way before they can be included in ComBase. We offer 3 ways to do that.
1. using our new online Data Wizard
2. adding your data to a simple Excel sheet (see below)
3. emailing your data to us, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Data Wizard
Click on Data Wizard, and sign up to create a Wizard account.
After that, just complete the fields and then submit.
We'll review your data and let you know if we have any questions.

If you are too busy to submit data using the Data Wizard or Excel sheets, simply send an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and let us know that you want to donate data. We'll then get in touch with you and provide customized assistance.
(For more advanced users, this ComBase demo for Excel includes an Excel demo file of data and macros that allows you to check if your data format has the proper syntax. Please unzip the file and open it in Excel 2007 or higher. The zip file includes a manual in PDF.)
